Friday, 12th of August 2016, Institut Teknologi Del (IT Del) was visited by a team from PT. Perkebunan Nusantara III (PTPN III). The Rector of IT Del Prof. Roberd Saragih welcomed the team in person. The team was coming to discuss about plans for collaborations between PTPN III and IT Del. As we know, PTPN III also engages in biotechnology research in several regions in Indonesia. The research institution of PTPN III was named Research Department for Perkebunan Nusantara (www.rpn.co.id). This department consists of some research centers:
1. Research Center For Coffee and Cacao in Indonesia
2. Research Center For Sugar Plantation in Indonesia
3. Research Center For Tea and Kina Plants
4. Research Center For Rubber
5. Research Center For Palm Plantation
6. Research Center For Biotechnology and Bioindustry in Indonesia.
The Operational Director of PTPN III Alexander Maha, in the occasion, presented some research already conducted by RPN, including lots of cooperation with some foreign companies for Biomass and Biogas power plants. Some examples were also presented regarding the products in biotechnology and bio-industry resulted from organic plastics made of palm ingredients.
The potential cooperation with IT Del could be in forms of job trainings and visits to industry for IT Del students, especially for Bioprocess Engineering and Engineering Management students. Joint use for research equipment owned by PTPN III can also be carried out in RPN research centers.
