A very interesting event was thrown by Language Cluster (GBK Language) of PI Del on March 14. Eleven talented students from the first until the third year participated in this event. They tried to show their capability in a five-minute rhetorical skill.

Kisno Shinoda, one of the juries, read the regulations and the assessment of this competition. He declared that every contestant would be assessed based on five criteria, they were interactional strategies, fluency and coherence, vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation.

Novitasari Sibarani from 2A opened this elimination stage by delivering her speech about Cultural Understanding. She enthusiastically delivered her speech. The second contestant was Zanna Simarmata, the classmate of the first contestant, Novitasari. In the beginning, she was good at delivering her speech, but when the time was close to the end of her speech, she was unable to control herself and lost her confidence in. She delivered a speech about education for a better life. Angelia Telaumbanua from 1D delivered her speech about �Can you change your habit?�. The next three contestants were the representative from 1B. The first one was Wati Siahaan and she was the first contestant capturing the juries� sight by her style in delivering her speech. Suheri Marpaung was the next after Angelia. This talented contestant also attracted the juries through his speech entitled �Say no to drugs�. He showed his capability in meeting the five assessment criteria. Anastasya Hutaosit also tried her best when delivering her speech. This made this stage more competitive.

Olga Sianturi, the first representative from the third year student from Engineering Informatics, impressed the juries through her well performance. It looked like the juries did not want to lose every single minute when she delivered her speech about education. Kristiani Sirait ffom 2C delivered the similar topic to Olga�s. She fluently delivered her speech but she was unable to meet interactional startegues and grammar criteria. Titus Nainggolan delivered a different topic to the other contestants. His topic was �General election: Why should we vote?�. In spite of the interesting topic, he lost his fluency when delivering his speech. The representatives of 1C, Olvi Silalahi and Dani Pratiwi Marbun closed this competition by delivering different topics. Olvi delivered her speech about education and Dani Pratiwi delivered her speech about internet safety.

Finally, Kisno Shinoda as one of the juries announced the result of the elimination stage for speech competition. Olga came as the winner, Suheri as the runner up and Wati Siahaan was in the third position. These three finalists will compete in the final stage on April 12.

�I was impressed by your ability in delivering a speech�, said one of the juries, Rentauli Mariah Silalahi. �And I was amazed that you can show it more than I thought before�, she added.
