One day after a workshop about translation study, IT Del held another language workshop with Australia Centre Medan (ACM) which was represented by its director of studies, Peter Clark. It took place in IT Del language laboratory for six hour. This workshop was entitled “English as A Global Language: Implication for Effective Communication” and attended by the members of the Language Cluster of IT Del and two teachers of SMA Unggul Del (Rinto Tampubolon, S.Pd. and Merry Siallagan, S.Pd.).
Peter started his presentation by showing a picture of a chaotic situation due to the use of language. This was a good brainstorming for the lecturers and the teachers and Peter delivered his presentation via an interactive session. As the core of his presentation, he emphasized on three main aspects in using English for effective communication, they were vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar. In addition, he gave the participants some exercises to do and showed them some videos for learning.
This workshop flew so smooth that unconsciously the time was over and Peter had to end his presentation. It was closed by the rector of IT Del, Prof. Dr. Roberd Saragih, MT and by the vice rector of partnership, Deni Lumbantoruan, ST, M.Sc. who presented Peter an Ulos (a traditional Batak cloth) as a souvenir from IT Del. Peter also gave some merchandise to the participants of this workshop and to IT Del. Language Cluster of IT Del do expect more and more such workshops will be held in the future.
