On Saturday, 01 June 2013, PI Del had officially been stated by IIEF (The Indonesian International Education Foundation) as an official center of TOEFL institutional test or well known as TOEFL ITP (Institutional Testing Program) in Sitoluama, Laguboti, North Sumatera after a signing of Memorandum of Understanding between IIEF and PI Del. Ibu Wiati Rahayu was present on behalf of the Director of IIEF and from PI Del, the Director, Dr. Arlinta Christy Barus S.T., M.InfoTech was present for the signing of the MoU.
The first test was then held at PI Del�s new language laboratory. There were 71 test takers sitting the test. Among them were 64 PI Del students of the third grade, three English teachers of SMA Unggul Del and the rest were PI Del lecturers and teaching assistants. The test took around 3 hours including the preparation. There were only three English skills tested: listening, reading and writing, with the number of test items 50, 40, and 50 in sequence.
During the test, Ibu Wiati Rahayu was in charge to be the main supervisor as this was the first test. However, for the second and more tests to be held at PI Del campus, three trained supervisors from PI Del, who had been trained a day before the test by Ibu Wiati would be able to supervise the tests. The three persons were Rentauli Mariah Silalahi, Cori Sarma Natalia Lumban Gaol, and Elida Siahaan.
Overall, the test was successfully done with all the supported facilities and equipment provided by PI Del. However, some students commented after the test that the test time was very short for each skills tested and that they found it difficult to circle the answers on the answer sheet with the very short time since they were not used to answering questions using computer answer sheet type. Yet, whatever the reasons the test takers might mention, they would get a good score if they answered the questions correctly.
From that day onwards PI Del had become the test center for TOEFL ITP under the supervision of IIEF (www.iief.or.id). PI Del would be able to organize an institutional TOEFL test at campus and was opened for public. Therefore, whoever wants to sit an institutional TOEFL test can call PI Del for the test. Soon, PI Del will announce all detailed information to sit the test on PI Del�s website.
Hopefully, after officially stated and trusted as a TOEFL ITP center, more and more people can come and do an institutional test in Sitoluama, Laguboti instead of going to a farther place such as to Medan, the central city of North Sumatera.
