DSC_1113Speak Good English Movement is the next theme for the English Language Cluster Program of PI Del. One of the ways to succeed this theme is by conducting the final stage of Del Language Cup 2013.

On April, 10, the language cluster assisted by Del English Club (DEC) conducted the top final stage of DLC 2013 in Auditorium from 20:00 -22.00 p.m. Most students attended this final stage and every student looked enthusiastic when attending this event. This event threw 3 (three) types of competition: Scrabble, Speech and Debate.

This event was opened by an opening prayer by one of the students. Then, Ruth Viodetta, the chairlady of DEC delivered her greeting to the audience. The coordinator of DEC, Rentauli Mariah Silalahi, M.Ed also delivered her introduction greeting and finally, Dr. Arlinta Christy Barus, M.Info Tech was welcomed to deliver her speech too. She said that this event was useful as a motivation for all students to use English well.

Binsar Fransisco, the Master of Ceremony (MC), introduced the finalists for the scrabble; they were Santi Hutapea, Conrad Siahaan, Septika Sitorus, and Sitta Siahaan. He also introduced the finalists of speech; they were Olga Sianturi, Suhery Marpaung, and Wati Siahaan. Scrabble was the initial game in that evening. While it was being carried out with its four players supervised by one student-supervisor, the other game was soon started, that was speech. Suhery Marpaung was the first finalist delivering his speech about Say No to Drugs. After he delivered his speech, Wati then showed her capability delivering a topic about Can You Change Your habit? On the third speech, the audience became so enthusiastically supported the finalist, Olga Sianturi, when she tried her best in delivering her rhetoric ability.

The final stage was then continued by a debate match. The finalists were from the same grade, they were 2A (represented by Kartika Pardede, Rianita Mnaik, and Christin Cecylia Munthe) and 2C (represented by Thomson Napitupulu, Ruhut Tambunan, and Kristin Sirait). One of the juries, Kisno Shinoda, read the rules and stated the topic of debate. It was quite a hot topic around: Bullying in a university life. He gave the first opportunity to team 2A and what was interesting that 2C tried to rebut the opinion of 2A. This game lasted for about 30 minutes and at the same time when it finished, the scrabble game was finished as well.

DSC_1075Waiting for the result of the match, three students from the first grade Ovryenni, Dwi, and Angelia entertained the audience by performing a drama entitled Who is the best? This drama was so interesting that it was able to attract the audience not to lose their sight. After this performance, DEC committee tried to entertain the audience too by singing a song entitled Heal the World popularized by the late Michael Jackson.

Finally, the time, which had been waited by the audience, came. The MC asked one of the juries to announce the winners and the runners up of each game. For scrabble, the winner was Conrad Siahaan with 96 points, the runner up was Sitta Simanjuntak with 88 points, and the third place belonged to Santi Hutapea with 82 points. For speech, Olga Sianturi came as the winner with 185 points, Wati Siahaan as the runner up with 165 points and Suheri Marpaung placed the third rank with 164 points. As for debate, 2A came as the winner with the average point of 168 and 2C as the runner up with 152 points.

This event was closed by the prizes awarding to the champions and the runners up. The PI Dels Director gave the prizes for the scrabble winners, the Coordinator of Students Affair, Humasak Simanjuntak, ST, MISD gave the prizes for the speech finalists, and Kisno Shinoda gave the prizes for the champions and the runner up of the debate.
