On March, 13, a debate competition was held by Language Cluster (GBK Language) of PI Del in the language laboratory. This competition was attended by 5 teams from 2A, 2C, 1A, 1B, and 1C.

This challenging competition was opened by the confrontation between 2A and 1B. 1B team, which was represented by Anstasya Hutasoit, Fransiska Nadapdap, and Suheri Manuturi Manurung tried to deliver their arguments against 2A team, which was represented by Kartika Pardede, Christine Cecylia Munthe, and Rianita Manik. The topic was about whether computer made human life easier or not. Positioned as the negative group, 2A won this first debate with 68 points, only 2 points difference to what 1B got. The winner of this stage would face 1A later.

The elimination stage was the continued with the debate between 2C and 1C. The second year students, which was represented by Kristiani Sirait, Ruhut Tambunan, and Thomson Napitupulu, was positioned as a negative group while the first year student represented by Mikael Sinaga, Veni Manurung, and Hanna Silitonga was positioned as the affirmative group. Having debated for about 15 minutes, each group should wait for the juries decision. The juries finally decided 2C as the winner of this group with 66 points.

1A which was represented by Ali Samosir, Conrad Siahaan, and Emi Bakkara had waited for their opponent, which was 2B. 1A gave their best effort against 2B even though one of the juries altered the topic that was about death sentence for terrorists. In the beginning, 1A dominated this debate by giving good examples but finally they lost their confidence. The juries gave the tight score for both sides. Having counted the score and the average, the juries announced 2B as the winner of this debate with 61 points while 1A got 60 points.

One of the juries, Rentauli Mariah Silalahi, M.Ed., stated that the first year students actually had a chance to beat their opponents, but most of them lost their confidence when the third speakers tried to deliver their arguments. The suggestions from us (the juries) will give benefit for the finalists when playing in the final stage, Kisno Shinoda, the other jury added.

The final stage, which will be held on April 11, will bring 2B and 2C as the finalists. Congratulations for the finalists! Keep doing your best!
